Another Great Comeback
There must be something to the psychology of the pressure of having a big lead - right? Absolutely! Charlie Wi, a veteran on the PGA Tour, has had a fairly successful career to date even though he has not won. In the group right behind him at the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach today was Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, two of the greatest of our generation.
So, with Wi starting the day with a 4 shot lead, it is safe to say that his lead was in danger for the first time since he started on Thursday. To make matters...

The Greatest – The Elite
It is funny that before the football season, a reporter asked Eli Manning, quarterback of the NY Giants, if he felt he was one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL. Without hesitation, he said that he felt that he was - end of story, right?
Eli Manning has played in the shadow of his older brother, Peyton, and his father Archie, his entire life. The fact that he answered he felt he was an elite quarterback came as a surprise to many pundits, simply because he is often considered the less talented and effective of the Manning brothers. In...

Dealing with Failure – Be Ready for It
The last two weeks on the PGA Tour have been a microcosm of life - failure, redemption, and ultimate success by an individual that refused to hang his head in shame and instead fought for what he wanted. Just last week at Torrey Pines in San Diego, Kyle Stanley held an insurmountable 5 shot lead going into the final round of the Farmer's Insurance Open. The lead wavered, as expected, during the round, but as he approached the par 5 18th hole, he held a three shot lead. After laying up to lob wedge distance, Stanley hit a shot that...

A Great Article on Managing Expectations by One of the Best in the World
I thought you would appreciate reading an article from one of the world's best players on danger of expectations.

The best players in the world experience the same things you do. It is important that they stick to the process and plan that they put together for success. When expectations get ahead of their own present preparation, it opens the door for frustration and anger. That becomes the expectations spiral that results in struggling and poor performance.
To get out of the expectations spiral, focus on today and what you can control....

The Psychology of a Rematch
The Psychology of a Rematch - What Do the Teams Face on January 9th?
On November 5, 2011, the Game of the Century was played in Tuscaloosa between LSU and Alabama. LSU prevailed in overtime and went on to win the SEC Championship. Alabama went the rest of the season undefeated, leading to an epic matchup between the two teams for the National Championship in New Orleans on January 9th.
Rematches rarely occur in college football. They are almost unheard of between teams matching up for the National Championship, with the last rematch occurring in 1997 between the University of Florida...

The Respect of Those Who Truly Sacrifice – The End of Iraqi Freedom

As you probably know from my previous writings, I hold a special place in my heart for those that have served or currently serve in the military. My father was a retired Lt. Col from the US Air Force, his brother retired from the US Navy, one of his brother-in-laws...

The Joy of the Game
Over the past week, I have received three emails/text messages from elite collegiate players thanking me for helping them find the joy in their game again. Obviously, it makes me feel good that I could help the players find that in their game, but in all honesty, they are the ones that found that inner acceptance and enjoyment. Not me - Them.
Success on and off the playing field involves the total person tapping into their internal and external resources to achieve their goals. Success does not lead to happiness, contentment, or joy in life. Success... Thursday, November 3 2011
The Should’ve Beens, the Could’ve Beens, and the Has Beens
The Story of the Farmer that Changed My Perspective on Preparation
I will be honest, fall is not my favorite time of year. Sure, college football season is reaching its full potential and the games seem to have such drama with them. The weather is turning cooler and taking the oppressive heat away and replacing it with the fresh brisk mornings. There are some great aspects of the fall season, but for the most part, I am a spring and summer person. I enjoy the warmth and the long days of sunlight so that I can do more outside. I have...
